Women's Democracy Lab (WDL) is the national organization building safety and leadership infrastructure for elected women at the state and local level.

WDL was started by three diverse Co-Founders with decades of combined experience recruiting, training, and supporting women candidates to run for office. We realized that the women we'd helped elect felt as if we'd nurtured, prepared, and cheered them on leading up to their first day of school, and then never returned.

This gap in support hits hardest for those newly breaking barriers, including women of color, Indigenous women, and gender-expansive leaders. In addition to learning a new, high-pressure role, they're often facing escalating threats, harassment, and political violence, often with no safety plan, no peer network, and no infrastructure built with them in mind. That gap is where WDL works.

What we know is that when we transform working conditions for the most marginalized elected officials, we transform them for every woman and person serving in public office.

At WDL, we have pulled back up in front of the school. There are snacks in the car, and we're debriefing their day and co-building strategies for their transformative leadership.
